About XERF Skin Tightening
The XERF system is an innovative treatment that can effectively tighten the skin and stimulate the production of new collagen. This FDA-approved device is the world’s first multifrequency monopolar RF treatment, which means it emits two different frequencies. (2) It can deliver energy into different layers of the skin and can penetrate down as far as the superficial musculoaponeurotic system (SMAS). This is the fibrous network of tissue that covers facial muscles and provides structural support. (3) This means that XERF can address both superficial and deeper facial tissues, allowing you to significantly rejuvenate your appearance without the need for surgical incisions, anesthesia, scarring, or lengthier recovery times.
This treatment originates from South Korea, one of the countries most renowned for its aesthetic treatments, technologies, and product innovations. XERF is manufactured and developed by Cynosure® Lutronic®, a global leader in aesthetics that boasts a wide portfolio of body contouring, hair removal, and skin revitalization treatments.
Benefits
XERF provides several benefits, including:
- Tighter Skin: The primary benefit of XERF is its ability to tighten the skin and reduce the appearance of wrinkles, creases, and fine lines to restore a more defined and youthful-looking appearance overall.
- Neocollagenesis: XERF can stimulate the production of new collagen, leading to improvements in the thickness, appearance, and elasticity of the skin. (4)
- Non-Invasive Techniques: This system uses radiofrequency energy to tighten the skin, avoiding the need for anesthesia, incisions, needles, or a lengthy downtime.
- Deeper Treatment: XERF emits multiple wavelengths to treat each level of skin and tissue and can penetrate as far down as the SMAS layer.
- Personalized Approaches: We customize each treatment plan according to each patient’s skin type and personal goals, as there is no singular approach to skin rejuvenation.
- Safe for All Skin Types: Our team of medical professionals can perform XERF on all skin tones and types, even patients with melasma.
- No Downtime: Unlike many other laser treatments and procedures, XERF offers an immediate return to each of your daily activities.
Candidates
It may be time to consider XERF if you have found yourself frustrated with loose skin, thinning skin, or visible signs of aging across various regions of your face, and if you want to avoid the need for needles or surgical intervention.
For the best results, you should be in good general health without any underlying medical concerns or skin conditions that may affect treatment or recovery. It is also important that you maintain realistic expectations regarding your outcomes. Our team of licensed medical experts will assess your candidacy during your consultation.
Personal Consultation
During the personal consultation, you will meet with a member of our licensed medical team to learn more about XERF and its benefits. They will ask several questions to learn more about your medical history, personal goals, and desired results. They will also perform a physical examination to assess your skin’s health and quality. Our team will then use these details to create a customized solution for you.

Preparation
If you decide to proceed with treatment, our team of licensed medical experts will provide you with a detailed set of preparation instructions. Preparing for XERF skin tightening is fairly straightforward:
- Avoid taking any medications or supplements that contain blood-thinning properties.
- Stop the use of retinoids or any harsh/irritating products before your treatment.
- Refrain from tanning and unprotected sun exposure.
- Stay hydrated.
- Arrive at your appointment with clean skin.
Procedure
Our licensed medical team will perform your XERF treatment in our office, with each treatment session lasting between 30 and 60 minutes. The treatment does not require anesthesia.
Your skin specialist will then pass the XERF handpiece over the targeted treatment area. The device will emit two different wavelengths of energy to address superficial and underlying layers of facial tissue, with the energy penetrating as deep as the SMAS layer.
The XERF system features Wave Fit™ pulse technology to control RF energy delivery, and Advanced Integrated Cryogen Delivery cooling technology to control the skin’s temperature. The Never-Numb™ design means patients do not require additional numbing agents, as the treatment is comfortable. Treatment feels more like a hot stone massage than a painful procedure. The XERF system will adapt its intensity and depth settings according to your skin’s needs using Accurate Impedance Feedback, authentically personalizing each experience. (2)
Recovery
Unlike traditional laser treatments or skin-tightening procedures, XERF requires zero downtime, which means you may return to your routine as soon as your appointment is over. Some warmth or redness may be present in the treated areas afterwards, but these effects will subside on their own shortly.
You should still follow certain guidelines after your treatment to ensure your skin heals properly. These typically include avoiding unprotected sun exposure, refraining from wearing makeup (the day of), and avoiding the use of retinoids/harsh skin care products. Our team of licensed professionals will provide further information in person.
XERF Skin Tightening Results
You will notice an immediate improvement in the appearance of your skin, but final outcomes will refine as collagen levels continue to rise. When they do, your skin will look and feel smoother and tighter, as this treatment can improve mild laxity and soften visible signs of aging.
The results of XERF are considered long-lasting and peak at approximately 12 to 18 months. For the best results, we advise undergoing two treatments, spaced four to six weeks apart. To preserve the effects of the treatment, we recommend an effective skincare regimen and wearing the proper sun protection at all times.
