Lip Filler

volumize dermal fillers

Lip filler is one of the most effective non-surgical ways to enhance the appearance of your lips. Some people are naturally born with thinner lips, while others experience a gradual loss in volume as they age. At Phoenix Skin Medical, Surgical, & Cosmetic Dermatology, our team of experts has helped thousands of patients refine the appearance of their lips with lip filler.

About Lip Fillers

Lip fillers can enhance the shape and volume of your lips. At Phoenix Skin, we offer several hyaluronic acid-based fillers to help you achieve your ideal pout.

About Hyaluronic Acid

Hyaluronic acid (HA) is a deeply hydrating substance. (1) HA-based fillers offer lasting and natural-looking results. They can last up to 12-18 months after administration in some cases. There are several formula variations, with the main difference between each filler being the degree of crosslinking. Crosslinking modifies the solubility of HA and impacts the viscosity of the filler. Because of this versatility, specialists can use HA fillers to treat several facial regions. (2)

Available Fillers

Phoenix Skin offers several types of fillers, each with a different formulation to produce customized results. Your specialist will pre-determine the filler to use during your personal consultation after listening to your concerns.

Revanesse® Versa™

Revanesse® Versa™ is a dermal filler that can address facial wrinkles, creases, and folds to restore a more refreshed, rejuvenated appearance. This filler is FDA-approved for those aged 22 and older, and it is an ideal choice if you are interested in addressing the corners of your mouth. (3)

Juvéderm® Ultra

Juvéderm® Ultra specifically targets the lips and perioral region. Juvéderm® Ultra can soften the appearance of fine lines, creases, wrinkles, and more around the mouth. This filler produces natural-looking and smooth results and contains lidocaine for enhanced comfort.

Juvéderm® Volbella®

Juvéderm® Volbella® is a popular filler that can help you restore a more youthful look to your lips. Juvéderm® Volbella® is ideal for augmenting and reshaping your lips, as well as correcting the appearance of fine lines around your mouth, also known as “smoker’s lines.” This filler is also ideal if you want to enhance the volume of your pout.

Candidates

You may be an ideal candidate for lip fillers if you are interested in augmenting the shape and fullness of your lips through non-surgical techniques. We also recommend this treatment if you possess thinner lips or are seeking to address age-related volume loss.

Anyone interested in lip fillers should be in good general health and maintain realistic expectations regarding the results of their treatment.

Personal Consultation & Appointment

Many patients have a consultation and the treatment on the same day, but if you prefer to have a consultation before making a decision, that can always be arranged. During your personal consultation, we will meet with you individually to craft your treatment plan and determine the best filler for your goals, talk about your desired lip aesthetic, medical history, specific concerns, and more. We encourage you to prepare and ask any questions you may have, as your consultation will serve as an opportunity to learn more about lip injections and how they may benefit you.

To schedule a consultation and/or book a lip filler treatment, please contact us online. If you would prefer scheduling your consultation over the phone, we invite you to call the office most convenient for you:

Preparation

Once you decide to proceed with your lip injections, we will give you a set of preparation instructions. Preparing for lip fillers is easy, but we still need you to follow each direction to ensure the best possible results.

  • Refrain from taking any medications or supplements that may thin your blood.
  • Avoid consuming alcohol 24 hours before treatment.
  • Discontinue any nicotine use at least two weeks before your appointment and throughout your healing period.
  • Do not wax, bleach, or shave the area surrounding your lips.
  • Arrive at your appointment with clean skin, free of any product or makeup residue.
  • Be sure to tell us if you are prone to cold sores.

Procedure

Our licensed professionals perform each lip filler treatment in-office. The duration of the appointment will vary depending on the details of the treatment plan, but you can expect it to be short! Most patients find that anesthesia is unnecessary, but you can discuss numbing options during your personal consultation.

The area will first be sterilized before beginning the injections. Our injectors will choose each injection site strategically based on your desired appearance. Your specialist may enhance your cupid’s bow, redefine the vermillion border, enhance your lip volume, and more. (4) Once they administer all of the desired filler, your appointment will be complete.

Recovery

Because lip fillers do not require significant downtime, patients can return to most daily activities after injections. However, there are certain guidelines you should do your best to follow to avoid irritating the lips.

Some swelling, bruising, or tenderness around the injection sites after your treatment may occur. These effects are temporary and will subside on their own shortly after, but you may also manage them using a cold compress or certain over-the-counter medications. Also, refrain from rubbing, massaging, or excessively moving your lips, as well as avoid any harsh skincare products or treatments.

Results

Immediate improvement can be seen in the shape and fullness of the lips, as HA works quickly beneath the skin. The lips may initially appear overfilled due to any potential swelling, but their final, refined appearance will become more apparent as this subsides. You will see fuller, more defined, and shapelier lips as a result, as well as a more proportionate appearance as your lips become more balanced with your other facial features.

Your lip fillers will last for several months, with most of our patients experiencing their results for 12-18 months, depending on age and lifestyle. After this point, you may return for a touch-up to maintain the effects of your treatment.

FAQ

How long will the result of my lip fillers last?

The duration of your results will vary depending on how quickly your body metabolizes your fillers. Most of our patients experience results that last between 12 and 18 months. Patients may decide to undergo additional injections when results wear off.

Will my lip fillers be painful?

As with any injection, there is some expected discomfort; the feeling of brief pinching as opposed to intense pain. Certain fillers additionally contain lidocaine to numb the treatment area and enhance patient comfort. If you have sensitive skin, let your injector know so that they can adjust your treatment plan accordingly.

How much lip filler will I need to see my desired results?

The amount of lip filler you need will vary depending on the desired appearance and what your lips currently look like. During your consultation, we will discuss the treatment, including the amount of filler that will be needed for the desired result.

How will I know which type of lip filler is right for me?

After the consultation, we will determine the most effective filler for your needs. Most lip fillers are HA fillers, which provide immediate volume enhancement.

Can I combine my lip fillers with another treatment?

Yes, lip fillers can be combined with many facial rejuvenation treatments such as Botox and fillers in other areas of the face, earlobes, or hands. For personalized recommendations and further information, we encourage you to schedule a personal consultation.
