IPL stands for Intense Pulsed Light. IPL is a non-invasive, non-ablative energy that targets sun-induced brown spots, freckles, birthmarks and broken capillaries in the skin. After a series of treatments, you will notice a significant reduction of unwanted pigmentation and redness.* Patients can resume most daily activities immediately after treatment.
How Many Treatments Will I Need?
It depends on the number of conditions we are treating and the severity of the damage. We offer single sessions and packages of three or six performed at 4-6 week intervals. This allows us to safely and effectively treat pigment at various depths & layers in the skin.
Does the Treatment Hurt?
IPL will feel like a hot rubber band snap on the surface of your skin. A mild sun-burn sensation can persist for up to 1 hour after your treatment, but usually subsides after the application of our PCA Skin products, but redness can last up to 12 hours.* For 12 hours to 14 days after your treatment, brown pigment with darken and crust as it is pulled to the surface and will then flake off with the skin’s natural cell turnover cycle.* Broken capillaries may temporarily darken and then fade.
What are the Side Effects and Risks?
Like any aesthetic laser treatment, there are some side effects and risks to be aware of. These risks such as burns, unwanted darkening and/or lightening of skin pigment can be increased by factors like tanning (indoor and outdoor), sun exposure, medications, and abrasive skin care use. Certain skin types and conditions are not candidates for IPL, so a free consultation prior to treatment is necessary. Our aestheticians and providers can help you determine if IPL is right for you and offer alternate solution if needed.
