As we age, wrinkles and creases begin to appear in the skin and lips as the underlying collagen and elastin fibers begin to break down and wear out. In the past, the most frequently used material for filling these wrinkles and lines was injectable collagen, but now there is an array of FDA approved filler options available such as Restylane, Perlane, Juvéderm, Artefill, Evolence and even your own fat! These products are injected into or under your skin, beneath a wrinkle or fold. The number of injections needed depends on the depth and length of the wrinkle.
Hyaluronic Acid Fillers
Hyaluronic acid is a naturally occurring substance in healthy skin that helps add volume and hydration. There is no allergy test needed for these fillers because they are not extracted from animals.
Restylane is a volume replacement therapy that uses non-animal derived hyaluronic acid. It’s proven to give long-lasting correction of moderate-to-severe facial wrinkles as well as lip enhancement.
Results: Most results last eight months or longer for lip enhancements, fine lines and wrinkles.
Perlane is an injectable cosmetic dermal filler that is used to soften wrinkles and facial folds. It is also a popular filler for lip augmentation, facial depressions, and facial scarring. Like Restylane, Perlane is composed of hyaluronic acid, but at a higher concentration. This makes Perlane injections great for smoothing deep lines that Restylane might not be able to fully remove.
Results: Most results last eight to twelve months
Juvéderm is an injectable gel that instantly restores your skin’s volume and tone. It is the only filler available with a smooth consistency gel formulation. Crow’s feet and wrinkles between the eyes and at the corners of the mouth all respond well to Juvéderm. Lip enhancement and improvement in vertical or “smoker’s lines” can also be improved using Juvederm.

Collagen-Based Fillers
Artefill is the first and only permanent injectable filler for the correction of nasolabial folds, or smile lines. It is a formulation of tiny round and smooth particles (PMMA microspheres) and purified bovine collagen gel make it a dual-acting injectable wrinkle filler: the solution not only acts as a dermal filler, but its microspheres also stimulate the body to produce its own collagen. As the injected collagen slowly degrades naturally, the newly produced collagen replaces it. This provides a permanent support structure for enduring wrinkle correction, resulting in long-lasting, almost permanent results.

Evolence is a filler derived from pig (porcine) collagen that adds volume and structure to depleted facial areas. It is used to correct moderate to deep facial wrinkles and nasolabial folds. There is no skin test required with Evolence because porcine collagen is genetically similar to human collagen.

Microlipoinjection (Fat Fillers/Transfer)
Microlipoinjection is a procedure in which an individual's own body fat is used to fill lines and creased areas in the skin, or to add volume to lips and cheeks.
