Laser Hair Reduction
Laser Hair Reduction
The Lumenis™ LightSheer Diode™ is safe and effective for most skin and hair types. We offer packages of 10 sessions for various areas of the body and are given upon consultation.
How does it work?
The hair has three cycles of growth. For laser hair removal to be effective, the hair needs to be in the anagen or “growth” phase when it is attached to the hormone & blood supply. The laser energy is attracted to the pigment or melanin in the hair and travels down the follicle to the blood supply where it impedes the follicle’s ability to continue hair growth. To ensure effectiveness of the treatment you cannot wax, tweeze or use depilatory creams during laser hair removal treatments. You do not have to let your hair grow out; in fact, we recommend that you do shave the day of your treatment. Some patients may experience redness and swelling around the hair follicle of the treated area anywhere from 20 minutes to 24 hours after a treatment, which is a normal part of the treatment process. Makeup and sunscreen can be applied immediately after the treatment.
What kind of hair can we treat?
We can treat almost any area on the body with hair growth. The hair must have a high melanin production, so blonde, white, gray and red hair will not be affected. We can treat most skin types including African American and Hispanic skin types, however, because of darker skin pigmentation, the treatments may take longer to see results.
How long does it take until the hair is gone?
We include 10 treatment sessions in the cost of our packages. Since the laser affects hair in the anagen or “growth” phase, and not all hairs are in this phase at the same time, it will take multiple sessions at 4-6 week intervals to see results. You will see a gradual reduction with each treatment.
Will all my hair be gone?
Lumenis™ guarantees up to 85% reduction. This means that you may still have some hairs at the end of your 10 sessions, but it will much easier to maintain. Certain preexisting factors such as hormones, genetics, and medications can stimulate hair growth. Until these factors are assessed and treated properly, they can cause hair to grow back even after you’ve had 10 treatments. Our aestheticians can discuss this topic further with a free consultation.
Side effects and risks
As with all aesthetic lasers, there are some risks involved in the treatment of any skin type. Burns, hyper- and hypo-pigmentation, and scarring are some of the more severe side effects. Certain lifestyle factors can increase risks such as sun exposure, tanning beds, spray tanning, medications (such as Retin-A and antibiotics) and recent chemical peels. Our aestheticians will assess any risk factors at the beginning of every treatment as use of the aforementioned risk factors can change with the seasons. These concerns can be discussed further with one of our aestheticians.
Medlite Laser Tattoo Removal
Having second thoughts about a tattoo? You’re not alone. With the advent of laser tattoo removal, many people who used to dream of getting rid of their old markings are now considering the option of permanent tattoo removal.
The Medlite laser uses an intense beam of light to significantly lighten or completely remove the tattoo. Different wavelengths of light treat different colors of ink. When the ink particles of the tattoo absorb the light from the laser, they are broken up into tiny fragments. These fragments are then absorbed through your body's natural cleansing mechanism (this cleansing process generally takes a few weeks - larger ink particles may require multiple treatments).
Most patients will see dramatic improvement in their tattoos (barely visible or not visible at all!). The number of treatments required for maximum improvement depends on the size, location, depth and color of your tattoo. Treatments should be placed 4 to 8 weeks apart to allow your body to remove the maximum amount of tattoo pigment. Treatment sessions usually take from 10 to 30 minutes.
